The bets you will see on most matches
- Match result (1X2)
- Home win, draw or away win. The simplest football bet, and the one most prices are built around.
- Over/under goals
- Total goals above or below a line such as 2.5. It does not matter who scores them.
- Handicap
- A goal head start for the underdog, so a one-sided fixture has a closer price.
- Both teams to score
- Yes if each side scores at least once, whatever the result.
- Outright
- The league champion or the top scorer, settled when the competition ends.
- In play
- Bets placed after kick-off, with the price moving as the match does.
Reading odds of 2.50
Stake 10, and a win returns 25: your 10 back plus 15 profit.
The same price is 3/2 in fractional odds, and it implies a 40% chance. If you rate the real chance lower than that, the price is not in your favour. Prices move as team news comes in, so the odds you take are the odds on your bet slip when you place it.
